all the things i don’t know.

For everything in life that I do not know, I will find someone who has the answers. I will never be afraid to ask questions…

I was speaking with a good friend of mine that is married, I’ve know him for some time so we have a pretty transparent relationship: neither of us is afraid to speak freely…

Here’s a transcript of the conversation:

AF: You know, I wanted to ask you, since you have Blackberry Messenger (BBM) do you have your wife as a contact/friend?

Anonymous: Are you crazy? That’s like setting yourself up for a fight, because if you read messages and don’t reply straight away it will lead to an argument. I’m not a novice – I wasn’t born yesterday.

AF: Jajajajaajaajaaa.

Anonymous: I’m smarter than you might think, when the time came to upgrade her phone I took charge and bought her an iPhone, rather than leave it to chance and have her come home one day after work singing praises about how cool her new blackberry is.

AF: So essentially you are preventing arguments from ever occurring.

Anonymous: Yes, that’s what I do.

AF: Interesting…

Which leads me to my Sunday morning rant: media, more specifically “intrusive” media will lead to the downfall of most relationships. Things like BBM, Facebook, and even text messaging create conversations that are never-ending. To our peers this seems like a great thing in the short-term, because of the amount of information you can learn about a person without investing too much face time, but in the end it will lead to the failure of your said “relationship.” I label “intrusive” media as anything that consist of social networking in which you have a digital personality – most don’t view it as so, but in essence, it is viral marketing for yourself & personal relationships.

Back to the BBM game…
Rather than having conversations when you have something meaningful to say, we have conversations because we are bored and have nothing better to say. We live vicariously through others while we are updated on worldly occurrences from our bedside.

Not to boast, but I can touch 6 of 7 continents with my blackberry messenger, which is quite sickening, because in essence it means that I will never truly experience true sleep unless the phone is powered off – do people even do that anymore? We are all here searching for an undefined level of acceptance – we have yet to see the value in it, but we covet it: dearly. So the phone stays on, the lines of communication stay open, opinions are never too strong because we don’t want to offend anyone or be wrong. No one is ever truly sleeping anymore, we are just idle till the right person reaches out.

These are just some thoughts that I scribbled on a piece of paper at a small diner as I people watched inside to get from the cold.
