Thoughts & Prayers for Haiti.
There is something to be said about working with people and being able to see the fruits of your labor every single time. I guess that is why I love what I do: when I am working with the right people, we can make some very beautiful pieces. All things considered, some things take priority, business can and will come second to many things: friends, family, health, faith, etc… What many of us fail to realize is that we are created equal and sometimes we forget that – if you are reading this you have a great opportunity right now, just for the simple fact that you access to the internet and a roof over your head – hopefully in a safe place. As much as we alienate it, what happens in the rest of the world DOES effect us, maybe not right this second, but it will sooner or later.

Haiti was struck with an earthquake, the strongest since, “Kobe” which hit Japan in 1995. Haiti, a war-torn society, was actually the first ever post-colonial free black nation. I have no doubt that Haiti will rebound from this, because they are strong people and will continue being so, but how will we respond? It seems like it takes egregious circumstances for the rest of the world to notice that people are not living in ample conditions, maybe a reach, but simply the way I feel at the present. As a close friend stated when I shared this with him, “the combination of poor infrastructure with the associated devestation is said to possibly create a perfect storm…where disease and infection will amplify the destruction.” How did we let it get this bad? Why didn’t they develop new resources? Feels like we had so many opportunities to help them that we never capitalized on because we were too busy living our own lives…
My hopes, tears, and prayers are with Haiti, but they are also with us and the rest of the world, I hope that one day we can learn from our mistakes and realize that our neighbors burdens are also our own.
