One of the most important conceptual ideas of life that I feel is too often overlooked: by young and old is knowing who you are. It’s imperative to throughly understand the concept of self-worth. Generally speaking, because the world is a big place and we do share this ground with others, people will look to dispute your ideas. It is not because they don’t believe in you, but because this is the way society has trained the greater part of our people. In order to be fully realized by, “pop” culture you must have hundreds of thousands of fanatics, obsessing about your music, but if you were genuinely here to make music then you’ve been making music since you picked up that guitar – “you git me mate?” People like to feel like they discovered something, the jury isn’t out on who “discovered” America yet, but the concept of “discovering” something where people have been living for hundreds of years is kind of pretentious don’t you think?

Moving along…

There are many that look at the world and don’t question the things around them: how John has, “X” but will never stop to think why Sally has, “Y.” I think of people like this as lab rats, because they aren’t here to hurt anyone, but simply a necessary part of the matrix as Morpheus would say. I don’t have a problem with lab rats, without people who buy into the system we wouldn’t have people that break the system. I understand their purpose, but they rarely understand mine. It’s difficult for them uncork a bottle of wine the same way we do, let alone walk in our shoes. Often lab rats need tangible proof of the things: that people like me feel. I don’t need to see it on paper to believe, the energy in people can be felt and will tell you if their passions are aligned with their heart. John & Sally wont understand the words we speak until they have been tried, proven, and tested the viscosity of its contents by the rest of you and guess what – there’s nothing wrong with that. Said persons probably have the same few things for dinner and rarely try a new restaurant. They wouldn’t know that skate wing prepared by the right chef taste more like chicken than chicken itself until they read about it in the New York Times… they will rarely step outside their comfort zone for the sake of their beliefs unless the concepts are proven by popular culture.

My friends: this is life – we cannot expect the world to conform to the way that we decide to live, but being aware of concepts like this is monumental for us. As a result of their linear thought process, John & Sally might question our decisions and attempt to define who we are, which is perfectly fine: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What is NOT okay is for you to feel inclined to explain self to anyone. If you know who you are then you know where you are going. Although you will find more people in the world that will tell you how impossible everything that you’re doing is, you are actually proving their argument wrong as we speak (insert smiley face here). Those with little faith will soon be your disciples; when you reach your destination. Their opinions are justified with what they perceive as facts, they follow blindly, think primitively, and live meagerly.

If you know who you are then you will never need to prove who you are. For the most part everyone wants to decide who you are for you, and again that’s fine, but I respectfully disagree with the opinions of 6.5B people. Your opinions will not define me. People often ask questions about my line: prices, where do you sell, etc etc, I don’t mind sharing information at all, but to be honest, I listen to many people, but I value very few opinions. Furthermore, the people that I do acknowledge, well, they tell me, “I need to work harder and to keep creating my opportunities” they do not attempt to direct my aesthetic because they know my moral compass is aligned with my vision. Society wants us to prove to them why we are doing everything they are not: habitually, but we don’t need society because we have our own community and the currency is love, energy, passion, faith, imagination. Remember that. Although we are composed of the same things, we are not the same.

We will never be the same.

We as a people are quite fickle, we like the anonymity of things, thats why comments run rampant when there aren’t names or emails associated with it, but where there is we like to hide. For some there is a fear that their opinions might not align with those of others. We relish when we can make an absolute statement: one that does not have a contrasting opinion: IF we don’t want it to…

Along came chatroulette, something that some of our peers will love and never let go – so long as it keeps anonymous… A friend showed me the site about 8 weeks ago, another showed it to me during the Sundance Film Festival, it just recently came up in conversation again, but this time in Miami…

Everyone is talking about it… does that mean we should as well?

People love & will continue to love this site because it allows you to do something risque in a private manner. You can watch people at all times, but can control who/when they see you. WARNING there is some profanity on this site. Quite often you will to see a man doing things he shouldn’t. I would argue that 80% of the people on this website are looking to engage in sexual encounters of some sorts, but only with those that they feel fit their cache. Thats the most peculiar part of the website, that the people in which you are viewing are only gross/weird/freaky when they do not fit your particular aesthetic – for lack of better term chatroulette is speed dating on steroids on the internet. If the person on the other side of the camera does not strike you, the “next” button is hit automatically. I thought it was a fantastic social experiment that will either soon be ended or regulated by some form of government.

Here is something that is uniform regardless of class, education, or wealth and that is those in which we engage with for personal pleasures / relationships are not as awkward as the circumstances in which we encounter them if we find them physically attractive. I find it hilarious.

I’m laughing as I type.

Sincerely,

For everything in life that I do not know, I will find someone who has the answers. I will never be afraid to ask questions…

I was speaking with a good friend of mine that is married, I’ve know him for some time so we have a pretty transparent relationship: neither of us is afraid to speak freely…

Here’s a transcript of the conversation:

AF: You know, I wanted to ask you, since you have Blackberry Messenger (BBM) do you have your wife as a contact/friend?

Anonymous: Are you crazy? That’s like setting yourself up for a fight, because if you read messages and don’t reply straight away it will lead to an argument. I’m not a novice – I wasn’t born yesterday.

AF: Jajajajaajaajaaa.

Anonymous: I’m smarter than you might think, when the time came to upgrade her phone I took charge and bought her an iPhone, rather than leave it to chance and have her come home one day after work singing praises about how cool her new blackberry is.

AF: So essentially you are preventing arguments from ever occurring.

Anonymous: Yes, that’s what I do.

AF: Interesting…

Which leads me to my Sunday morning rant: media, more specifically “intrusive” media will lead to the downfall of most relationships. Things like BBM, Facebook, and even text messaging create conversations that are never-ending. To our peers this seems like a great thing in the short-term, because of the amount of information you can learn about a person without investing too much face time, but in the end it will lead to the failure of your said “relationship.” I label “intrusive” media as anything that consist of social networking in which you have a digital personality – most don’t view it as so, but in essence, it is viral marketing for yourself & personal relationships.

Back to the BBM game…
Rather than having conversations when you have something meaningful to say, we have conversations because we are bored and have nothing better to say. We live vicariously through others while we are updated on worldly occurrences from our bedside.

Not to boast, but I can touch 6 of 7 continents with my blackberry messenger, which is quite sickening, because in essence it means that I will never truly experience true sleep unless the phone is powered off – do people even do that anymore? We are all here searching for an undefined level of acceptance – we have yet to see the value in it, but we covet it: dearly. So the phone stays on, the lines of communication stay open, opinions are never too strong because we don’t want to offend anyone or be wrong. No one is ever truly sleeping anymore, we are just idle till the right person reaches out.

These are just some thoughts that I scribbled on a piece of paper at a small diner as I people watched inside to get from the cold.

X

Felipe

Received a great email this morning…

“Everyone – I recently figured out how the internet works and have managed to get a new U.S. number, since I got rid of my old one. Through Skype and some wires and cables and other things I don’t understand, you can now call me at the following number: 000) 000-0000. This also means that if I call you from Skype, your caller ID will show my number, which, again, is 000) 000-0000. I have a lot of faith in Skype, and if it works properly (which I’m sure it will) all these calls will go to my computer, or, if I’m offline, will be forwarded to my cell. I think I’ll have voicemail, too. Now if you find yourself drunk, lonely, and crying after 1am on the West Coast, or after 4am on the East Coast, you can call me at 000) 000-0000 and I will gladly take your call and listen to your sob story. The same applies if you are drunk and happy, too, or even if you’re completely sober.

For those of you that will be traveling through Europe in the near future or visiting me, my European number is 0000-171-000-0000. If you are texting from the U.S., then the number is 011-49-000-000-0000. I should have thought of being organized and not falling off of the map a long while ago, but I wasn’t really paying attention.

Aside from that, I wish you all a merry, merry Thanksgiving, and if you get a call from 718) 000-0000 over the holidays, feel free to pick it up.”

hahahah
–
